For the crisp topping:
3/4cupold-fashioned oats
1/2cupall-purpose flour
1/3cupbrown sugar
1/2teaspoonground cinnamon
1/3cupcold salted buttercubed
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine applesauce, sliced apples, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Mix until well combined. Pour into the prepared baking dish. 2 cups sweetened applesauce,3 medium apples,1/2 cup light brown sugar,1 teaspoon vanilla extract,1 teaspoon ground cinnamon,2 tablespoons cornstarch.
In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly. 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats,1/2 cup all-purpose flour,1/3 cup brown sugar,1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon,1/3 cup cold salted butter.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
Pro Tip:
Slice apples into uniform pieces for even cooking. You can also sprinkle a little lemon juice on the apple slices to prevent them from browning.
