1
17.3 ounce package
frozen puff pastry sheets
, thawed
1
21 ounce can
cherry pie filling
1
large
egg
1
tablespoon
water
1
tablespoon
sparkling sugar
Glaze:
1
cup
powdered sugar
2
tablespoons
milk
(I used whole milk)
1/2
teaspoon
vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.
Unfold both thawed puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (you will have 8 squares total).
Place about 2 tablespoons of cherry pie filling in the center of each pastry square, being careful not to overfill.
Brush the edges of each square with egg wash. Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
Transfer the turnovers to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sparkling sugar.
Cut small slits in the top of each turnover to allow steam to escape.
Bake for 18-20 minutes, until puffed and golden brown. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
While turnovers are cooling, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth to make the glaze.
Drizzle the glaze over the cooled turnovers and serve.
Notes
PRO TIP:
For a flakier crust, keep the puff pastry cold before baking. Work quickly on a lightly floured surface to maintain its texture.
