Recipe Ingredients

You’ll need the following ingredients to make the Best Tuna Salad Recipe

  • Tuna- Use your favorite brand, Bumble Bee Tuna, Starkist Tuna, whatever your favorite type of tuna is, use it!
  • Eggs
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sweet pickle relish- I love using this, but you can use dill relish instead.
  • Lawry’s seasoning salt

INGREDIENT NOTES:

  • Albacore Tuna: For the best flavor and texture, I recommend using white tuna packed in water. You can also use light tuna for a variation.
  • Sweet Pickle Relish: Adds a touch of sweetness and crunch to balance the savory flavors. You can swap for dill pickles if you prefer a less sweet option.

HOW TO MAKE TUNA SALAD STEP-BY-STEP:

STEP 1: Drain the tuna and place it in a medium-sized bowl.
STEP 2: Using a fork, flake the tuna and sprinkle in the seasoning salt.
STEP 3: Stir in the mayonnaise until well combined.
STEP 4: Add the chopped hard-boiled eggs and sweet relish to the mixture.
STEP 5: Mix everything well until fully combined.
STEP 6: Store in the fridge until ready to serve. Serve in lettuce leaves, on pita bread, white bread to make tuna salad sandwiches, or as a tuna melt.

Pro Tip:

For extra flavor and texture, try adding a small squeeze of lemon juice to brighten up the tuna salad. It adds a fresh, tangy kick that complements the richness of the mayo and sweetness of the pickles perfectly!

Storage:

Storage: Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container. It can be kept for up to 3-5 days.

Freezing: Freezing is not recommended for tuna salad as the texture changes after thawing.

Additions & Substitutions:

ADDITIONS:

  • Dijon Mustard: Add 1 teaspoon for a tangy kick.
  • Fresh herbs: Chop up some fresh dill or fresh parsley.
  • Pickles: Chopped sweet pickles or a whole dill pickle can give the salad a little crunch.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Mayonnaise: For a lighter option, use plain Greek yogurt or a mix of sour cream and just enough mayo to make it creamy.
  • Relish: Swap sweet pickle relish for dill pickles if you prefer a more savory flavor.
